Fast answers to what is happening in your Hot Water Heater
When your Hot Water Heater has problems, you need answers fast.
Here is a quick reference guide to what could be happening inside your tank:
#1 – Your Hot Water Heater is leaking
This is one of the most common and annoying hot water heater problems. A leaking water heater is most often in need of replacement. We are available 24/7 to discuss new hot water heater options.
#2 – Your water is taking a long time to heat up
If your Hot Water Heater is making noises that are normally only heard in a Batman comic book (think “Pop!” or “Bang!” or “Swoosh!”) you may have a large sediment build-up. Those sounds are caused by the buildup of hard water (Mineral) sediment heating up and bursting inside the tank.
You can flush out the tank yourself, yet often if the noise is audible the chunks may be too loud to pass through the drainage pipe. Here is an instructional video on how to flush your Hot Water Heater and regain that precious Hot Water:
#3 – Your pilot light is not staying lit
This requires quite a simple solution – just replace the thermocouple (98 times out of a 100 that does the trick). This is an inexpensive solution that we would be happy to assist you with.
#4 – Your water coming out of faucets or shower heads smells really bad.
This odorous smell is a result of hydrogen sulfide in your water supply.
Despite the stink, it is good that you caught this warning sign early. The Hot Water Heater is giving you an indication to replace the anode rod. You can also chlorinate the water supply as this should eliminate the problem.
#5 – The water in your home is not a pleasant color
This reddish, brown water could also be caused by the mineral deposits in your tank.. The reddish, rusty color indicates that your Hot Water Heater is now rusting and corroding away. You may need a water heater replacement.
