Winterizing your Water Heater
Winter’s low temperatures and below freezing nights are on their way to the Ft Worth area! Now is the time to make sure that your gas or electric water heater is working properly.
Many new tankless water heaters have advanced technology that protects against freezing cold down to -30 F or even lower. But guess what? This great feature uses electric power as a protection system, so if there is a power outage or surge, your tankless unit will fail!
These tips winterize your vacation home and your water heater so it runs properly for many winters to come!
Keep an eye on it!
Take a look and give your water heater a good visual inspection. If you see any discoloration or rust spots, keep an eye on these! If something happening on the outside of your water heater tank, there is probably some negative action happening inside as well! Check in with these problem spots weekly. If the damage spreads, give one of our Water Heaters Only, Inc. Ft Worth technicians a phone call at (817) 274-7600.
Clean water heater = Clean water!
The near freezing temps start to push your water heater to produce hot water 24 hours a day. You need your water heater to work at 100% efficiency! It’s a great time of year to flush out all the sediment built up inside to prevent water leaks and retain great, clean, hot water to clean dishes and bathe in. If your water heater hasn’t been flushed in the last year, it’s time to call Water Heaters Only, Inc. Ft Worth at (817) 274-7600.
There is no such thing as a small leak
Inspect your water heater’s on/off valve to make sure it is working properly. If you see a leak, do not try and turn the valve. It could easily break off and cause a much bigger leak! If you give this valve a turn now and then, you can rest assured that it works!
