Got A Leaking Water Heater?

Have you ever come home to find no hot water in the shower or water all over the garage floor?  Is there a leaking water heater or water coming out of the closet where your water heater is?
  • Water running down the sides of the water heater
  • Water on the floor near the water heater
  • No hot water and slight moisture near the bottom of the water heater
These are tell-tale signs that your water heater has probably cracked on the inside. When you notice water leaking from the bottom of your water heater, this usually means there is a crack in the tank and the entire water heater will need to be replaced.

Sometimes a water heater can develop a leak from the top. This type of leak is usually caused by a fitting or a plumbing part that has malfunctioned. In this case, the water heater can often be repaired.
  • Leak from the shut off valve
  • Leaking from a flex line
  • Leak from the T/P overflow line

What You Can Do

Performing a visual inspection of the water heater is the best way to see where the leak is coming from. It is a good idea to have a flashlight and a step ladder handy. This way, if you need to take a closer look at a certain part of the tank, you will already have the tools you need.
